About ADR
The acronym “ADR” used to mean exclusively Alternative Dispute Resolution (referring to an “alternative” to judicial or court processes).
This definition has now been expanded to mean Assisted Dispute Resolution (providing “assistance” to disputants to help them resolve disputes), or, Appropriate Dispute Resolution (determining and providing an “appropriate” way of resolving conflict or disputes).
Whatever its particular meaning, ADR refers to a spectrum of processes, other than litigation, which can be used to resolve disputes. |

The spectrum of processes that can be used includes:
- Facilitation
- Negotiation
- Dispute Resolution Board (DRB)
- Mediation
- Early Neutral Evaluation (ENE)
- Conciliation
- Expert Determination
- Adjudication
- Arbitration
